Welcome to the premiere issue of our monthly newsletter. Here we will be bringing you up to date news and information on various topics, as they relate to farming, food and health as it pertains to you, the consumer.
From new happenings at the farm, to new legislation that affects us... and ultimately, you as the consumer of farm-fresh, local produce.
Essential Oils (EO) vs. Fragrance Oils (FO)
This month, we will discuss why we prefer to use Essential Oils and extracts for aroma or flavor instead of scents, also called Fragrance Oils (FO).
Essential Oils (EO) are naturally occurring in nature. They are not harmful in diluted form, when added to soaps, lotions, lipbalms and other products used on or in the body. There are still problems with essential oils, for certain people (elderly or infant), people that are sensitive to certain EO's, or pregnant, etc.,. Some EO's are very strong and harsh and should not be used on skin, so we take great care with these too.
Fragrance Oils (FO) and artificial flavors are synthetic or, are not naturally occurring. They are man-made or modified by man to achieve the desired result, such as to provide aroma, or flavoring. Many fragrance oils are not often tested to see what reactions may be caused by them.
Since our goal here at Weber Farms is to provide safe, healthy and healthful products
for our family and yours, it goes against our philosophy to sell products to you that
may contain ingredients that are not natural. We have, at our customers' request, produced
various soaps and lotions that contain fragrance oils ( vanilla-scented products) and preservatives. We have searched for
those ingredients that have the least negative impact on the body, but, because they are not 100% natural, we still consider them
to be ingredients that should not be used.
Whenever we do use these ingredients, we will also notate that they are not essential oils or extracts, or that they are not natural. This is our way of telling you that
we would prefer not to use them ourselves.
For your Health,
Weber Farms
